HEALING GARDENS CONCEPTUAL PLAN

VETERAN ADMINISTRATION:
MEDICAL CAMPUS NORTH QUAD
Year: 2012
Project:
A unique opportunity and mission to create a series of exterior rooms connected with a functional pathway while providing a Healing climate or experiences for soldiers/patients, staff, and general public. The dramatic design represented a garden which promotes healing for the heart, mind, and soul; this is accomplished through the use of nature: flowers, plants, water, sunlight and shading, different tactile sensations, visual stimulations, and mental spiritual enhancements.
A very large open space framed by six buildings is positioned at a very important place in history of the Medical Center. Many of these buildings are some of the oldest on campus; being respectful of the historical aspects of this quad while totally transforming the site was the architects most difficult challenges. It was the intent of the approved design to be able to take elements and reapply them in part or whole at other strategic site over the entire campus.
