NEW SINGLE FAMILY HOME

FOR THE BULLARD'S FAMILY

Design 2011-12

Project:
Design a custom 2,800 sf single-family nestled on top of a hilly urban site, which is over grown with many natural small trees. Goal incorporate nature into and around the house creating a structure that looks to grow from the site.

Details:
Site was surveyed to find a logical placement for the house footprint. Few trees had to be disturbed when placement was finalized. Southern exposure will be limited by nature and selection of window type and shading. Interior spaces on public entrance level was an overwhelming spacious feel. Rear walls of Great room stretches two stories and is punctuated with glass to bring the landscape into the house, while maximizing day lighting effects.

The house will have several unique features: at entrance a water wall cascades down behind a suspended and open stairs. Entering along stairs, the walls textures are designed to promote a certain feel and energy. Partial and/or see thru walls present a sense of strength yet lightness of being. A partial basement is less than 1/3 of the main floor and has limited uses (exercise room, 1/2 bath, mechanical room, sauna, storage, and game room). There will be: a great room; dining room; kitchen with pantry; 1/2 bath; parent bedroom with closet, fire nook, office nook, and full bath; two other bedrooms with closets; washer and dryer area; mudroom; breezeway to two car garage.
