Phase I:2014-15

Project: Adaptive Reuse Assessments of Historic Churches/Mills

First World Architects Studio developed a definitive listing of mills and churches, after consultations with The City staff.  The final assessment package provided North Adams with fundamental pre-development information per each building; which could guide those interested towards effective ideas for adaptive reuse strategies.

The study process appropriately addressed the following questions:

1) WHAT DO WE HAVE?

Review Process: Conducting Existing Facilities Surveys  and additional  relative to the overall eligibility as potential nomination to the national Register of Historic Places.

Review of existing design drawings, records, photographs, data

Cursory Analysis of existing structural system, mechanical system,                             electrical.

2) WHAT NEW USES CAN IT HOUSE?

Marketing Studies Reviews: (if any) relating to determination of social,                     economic and political need for and acceptability of the Project.

3) HOW WILL THE BUILDING HAVE TO CHANGE?

4) WHAT ARE THE BUILDING CODE IMPLICATIONS?

5) WHAT ARE THE ASSOCIATED COSTS?

Preliminary Estimate of the Cost of the Work, including:

                         Economic Feasibility Studies

                         Development costs

                         Site control and/or acquisition

Pre-design and site analysis services; and,

6) WHAT TOOLS DO WE NEED TO HAVE IN PLACE?

The methodology shall vary in order to provide fundamentally useful                       answers to each individual question. It is noted that those separate                         answers will ensue there will be unavoidable, as it should be, integration                 across the thematic approach.
